Rhinestone and Pearl Earrings
Inspired by the baubles of the past, these earrings really dazzle and shine! The post is a 16mm wreath of cubic zirconia set in either silver or gold-plated brass. A 12mm Swarovski pearl dangles beneath the post. Earrings made in Newport, RI and unique to the Newport Historical Society.
Much like today, pearls were a common choice for colonial women to wear. Gemstones and diamonds were also highly sought after, yet 'paste' offered an affordable alternative. Paste rhinestones were simply pieces of cut glass and often backed with a shiny silver or color to give the illusion of a diamond or gemstone.
