Newport Harbor Print
Matted print of Newport Harbor in 1888 by James Nicholson packaged in acetate sleeve with backer board. Full-color label on back.
Nicholson, a self taught painter, immigrated to Newport from Scotland and worked as a master joiner on several summer cottages. This image of Newport Harbor beautifully illustrates a typical day in Newport's working waterfront in the late 1800's, including the Eolus, a steamship that brought thousands of visitors to this city on the sea.
