Inspired by the delft tiles that surround the fireplace in the Wanton Lyman Hazard House, these earrings are made with ceramic delft beads and lapis lazuli. The ceramic beads measure about 30mm long and hang off sterling silver earring hooks.
Martin Howard purchased the delft tiles to surround the fireplace in the North parlor of his home in Newport, Rhode Island. A fashionable choice, 'delft' refers to a tin glazed earthenware ceramic originally made in Delft, Netherlands. Drawing inspiration from the Chinese ceramic traditions of the 14th century, Delft ceramics were blue and white in color.
