Wassail Cider Spices
Choose either a 3 oz tin or 1.5 oz packet of Wassail Cider Spices, composed of orange peel, ginger, cinnamon, allspice, and cloves, each ounce brews about a gallon of the spiced cider. To make, simply boil a gallon of cider (or ale or mead!) then add the spices and about a half cup of sugar and simmer. Tastes great served hot or chilled and fills the home with a deliciously festive scent!
Wassailing is an ancient English tradition that involved consuming the spiced beverage and wishing all those who drank it together good health, American colonists continued this traditional chanting, which eventually morphed into holiday caroling. Wassail refers to both the drink itself and the singing 'waes hail' tradition.
