Wassail Wine Spices
Choose either a 3 oz tin or 1.5 oz packet of Wassail Wine Spices, composed of orange peel, ginger, cinnamon, allspice, and cloves. Each ounce can be used to brew about a gallon of spiced wine.
Wassailing is an ancient English tradition that involved consuming the spiced beverage and wishing all those who drank it together good health. American colonists, including residents of Newport, continued this traditional chanting, which eventually morphed into holiday caroling. Wassail refers to both the drink itself and the singing 'waes hail' tradition.
