Colonial Bohea Tea


This light, winey black tea was the most imported tea in Colonial America, and comes loose in either a 3 oz tin or 1 oz packet.

In colonial America, the new availability of stimulating beverages like tea provided a welcome alternative to alcohol, and helped coffeehouses become gathering places for community discussion and debate. Tea was also popularly drank at home. In the collections of the Newport Historical Society is the epitome of eighteenth century fashionable tea consumption - a rococo teapot made by Paul Revere.
